What are the Benefits of Porcelain Veneers?

A porcelain veneer is a thin shell of tooth-colored material that is fitted over the front of your teeth. Porcelain veneers are an effective solution for repairing broken, chipped, or cracked teeth, however, they can also be used to improve the cosmetic appearance of healthy teeth.

As porcelain veneers are incredibly strong and durable, they are widely considered to be the most effective treatment for damaged teeth. Furthermore, there stain resistant properties also make them one of the most effective approaches for improving the cosmetic appearance of an individual’s teeth.

How Porcelain Veneers are Done

The first stage of a porcelain veneer procedure involves removing a thin layer of enamel from the front of your teeth in order to make room for the veneers. Following this, your dentist will create a mold of your teeth; this will be used to shape each of the individual porcelain veneers. At this stage, your dentist may place temporary veneers on to your teeth in order to protect them until the next appointment. Once your porcelain veneers have been shaped, they will be bonded onto the front of your teeth using a combination of a bonding chemical and composite resin cement.

Advantages of Porcelain Veneers

  1. Effective and Durable

The porcelain shells used to make porcelain veneers are perfectly flat, smooth, and tooth-colored. Each one can also be very precisely cut so that they come together to form a perfectly shaped set of teeth. Porcelain veneers are also very durable. A recent study (2017) that conducted various, rigorous strength tests on porcelain veneers and their bonding capabilities found a minimal failure rate.
  2. Stain Resistant

Porcelain veneers are completely stain resistant, meaning that they will remain the same shade of white throughout their lifetime. This feature is a great added benefit for patients who are repairing damaged teeth using porcelain veneers.

  3. Fast Procedure

Unlike other treatment methods, porcelain veneers do not require lengthy molding or shaping procedures. Over the course of two appointments, the treatment will be fully complete.
